Just 27 kilometers from Secunderabad lies the pristine and green neighborhood of Shamirpet. Many Hyderabad is known to this place as a picnic spot.
The Beauty of ShamirpetThe area is renowned for its lush greenery and water bodies. Shamirpet’s best known lake is an artificial lake, which was constructed about 50 years ago by a local landlord. This lake is known as Jawahar Lake and is rain fed. It has a small dam with flood gates that open up when the lake is brimming with water.
At the start of the dam, there is a small temple. This temple is dedicated to the local deity, Katta Maisamma. According to local folklore, the deity protects motorists and travelers traversing the bridge. It is common to see vehicles stopping and paying homage to the deity before proceeding onto the bridge. Adjacent to the temple lies a huge pond. During the Nizam era, there was a beautiful landscaped garden around the pond which attracted many colorful song birds. It used to be a pleasure to sit down in the garden and enjoy the melodious chirping of the birds. Today, the pond offer boating facilities.
